The Hotel Paraíso Carlisa is a luxury mountain resort surrounded by a primary and secondary forest, dedicated to the conservation of nature. The Hotel is a private reserve that enables the visitor to experience in a very unique manner the wildlife of Costa Rica's rainforest. The reserve has a 250-acre extension of virgin land, and adjoins the La Cangreja National Park. The hotel has more than 5 km of paths for all ages and levels. On each one of these paths the visitor will discover a sample of the diversity of Costa Rica's wildlife. You will see an endless number of species during these encounters: morpho butterflies, tree frogs, eagles, parrots, parakeets (sloths), tucans, squirrel monkeys (capuchinos)…. Our local guides will enjoy accompanying the visitors during horseback rides or hikes (trekking). You will be able to stop over in our observatory towers to see our great diversity of birds and fauna.El Hotel Paraíso Carlisa es un Lujoso resort de montaña rodeado de bosque primario y secundario, dedicado a la conservación. Birds- Download the complete list of birds - The birds of Costa Rica are a major tourist attraction that attract thousands of ornithologists from all over the world due to their beauty and variety. The Paraiso Carlisa Hotel has an extremely large variety as far as birds are concerned. In addition, the local names were collected (corresponding to the Gloria / Los Ángeles de Chires area) regarding many registered species, which comes to represent a very interesting sampling of the cultural wealth in relation to nature. These numbers were provided by Don Marvin Zúñiga (a local guide).
VEGETATION
The property is set out in the shape of a mosaic with an interesting combinaison of ecosystems that offer a wide range of vegetation from a primary forest to pasture areas without trees. A few portions of primary forest are present in the gorges and the areas near the confluence of the rivers that give birth to the Chires River (the grand waterfalls of Salto del Indio). This Pacific rainforest has samples of trees of good appearance and in excellent conservation condition. This area has been suggested to the MINAE (Environment and Energy Ministry) for studies and the possible reintroduction of threatened species. Most of the property is covered by secundary forest, by advanced and in certain areas mature growth. The developped areas are located near the hotel facilities, its cabins and roads. These are small areas immediately surrounded by forest. They attract a good number of bird species and are some of the best observation points. Since they are cleared they allow the observer to make interesting entries. Finally, there are a few hectares of pastures, probably previously used for cattle.
COMMITMENT TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITYThe commitment of the hotel Paraíso Carlisa towards sustainable development and the community motivated us in the building of the hotel as well as the employment of locals. The facilities were developped to have the least impact on the atmosphere (visual, lighting and sound) for the protection and harmony of the environment and all the animals living in the area. All residual waters are treated septically to ensure that no pollution will occur in the forest or rivers. All paths have been created with the intent of reducing as much as possible their impact on the environment and the least erosion possible. Since the beginning the hotel has replanted the zone with more than 10.000 authochthonic trees (cedar, pochote tree, trumpet tree, teak, ron-ron, oak, sandbox tree,....), and counts a total of 60,000 trees. ![]()
